Jesus Is Born

Long, long ago — on the most special night the world had ever seen — a baby was born in a stable in Bethlehem.

His mother was Mary, and his father was Joseph. There were no cozy beds or warm rooms for them that night, so Mary laid her new baby in a manger — a wooden box filled with soft, scratchy hay that animals usually ate from.

The baby’s name was Jesus.

Up in the fields nearby, shepherds were watching over their sheep in the dark. Suddenly, the whole sky blazed with light. An angel appeared, and the shepherds were so frightened they fell to the ground!

“Don’t be afraid!” said the angel. “I have the most wonderful news. Tonight, in Bethlehem, a baby has been born. He is the Saviour — the one God promised to send. You’ll find him wrapped in cloths, lying in a manger.”

Then the whole sky filled with more angels, all singing together: “Glory to God in the highest, and peace on earth!”

The shepherds ran to Bethlehem as fast as they could. They found Mary, Joseph, and the tiny baby, just as the angel had said.

And far away, wise men saw a new bright star blazing in the sky. They knew it meant something extraordinary. They followed that star across deserts and mountains, carrying precious gifts — gold, frankincense, and myrrh — to bring to the newborn king.

When they found Jesus, they knelt down and worshipped him.

A baby in a manger. A star in the sky. Angels singing in the night.

That is how the most important person who ever lived came into the world — not in a palace, but in a humble stable, where everyone was welcome.
